LIMA, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) — A think tank report titled “Jointly Promoting High-Quality Development and Building an Asia-Pacific Community with a Shared Future” was released Friday by Xinhua Institute, a think tank affiliated with the Xinhua News Agency.
The report, which was released at the Annual Meeting on Pragmatic Cooperation within the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) Framework between Peru and China, is divided into three parts — Focusing on Development: Creating a Remarkable “Asia-Pacific Miracle” Together; Facing Challenges: Meeting the Era’s Responsibilities; and Continuing the Glory: Achieving Common Prosperity Through Joint Efforts.
Thirty-five years ago, leaders from the Asia-Pacific region, following the trend toward peace and development, unanimously agreed to rise above the outdated mentality of bloc confrontation and zero-sum games by establishing the APEC. Since then, regional cooperation in the Asia-Pacific has embarked on the fast track of growth.
China is an active promoter of Asia-Pacific regional cooperation, said the report.
China advocates multilateralism and adheres to open regionalism. According to the report, APEC members have widely recognized China’s ideas and solutions, and China has been playing a “propeller” role in economic cooperation.
The report calls for building an Asia-Pacific community with a shared future featuring openness, inclusiveness, innovative growth, connectivity and win-win cooperation, which conforms to the general trend of the times and should be the common goal of APEC members.
APEC members should uphold the original intention of cooperation, jointly advocate the APEC spirit, work together to promote high-quality development in the region, and promote building a community with a shared future for mankind, the report said.
Xinhua Institute is the only media-based think tank among China’s national high-end think tanks. It focuses on public policy and international policy research and has conducted forward-looking and strategic research around major domestic and global issues in recent years, and has released many influential research results.
The annual meeting was jointly organized by the China Economic Information Service of the Xinhua News Agency and Peru’s Andina News Agency. It attracted over 100 attendees, including officials and representatives from government, businesses, media, and think tanks from China and Peru. ■
